Aspen Valley Medical Foundation established by Fred Atkinson and Drs. Russell Scott, Jr., Robert Oden and Robert Morgen "to engage in all activities intended for the betterment of health care and its effect upon the physical and mental well-being for all inhabitants of the Roaring Fork Valley."

$l.5 million raised to build a new Aspen Valley Hospital at 0401 Castle Creek Road.

| 1979 |
AVMF purchased 16 acres of land around Aspen Valley Hospital.
Henry L. Stein Memorial Medical Library donated.

Audrey Owings Memorial EMT Scholarship Fund established.
|

| 1985 |
President's Club $250,000 endowment fund established to meet future medical needs.

Monty Taylor Memorial Fund established to aid rehabilitation of people with substance abuse problems.

$l.5 million raised to build the Castle Creek Terrace Assisted Living Facility on the hospital campus.
$1 million raised to bring a new CT Scanner to AVH.

Purchased the Mid Valley Clinic building in Basalt. Building purchased for $360,000 and sold to AVH for $500,000 in 1998.
Aspen Basalt Care Clinic, providing low income people access to health care, opens with major support from the Medical Foundation.

Foundation started paying Executive Directors full salary - had been shared with the hospital.
Funded Aspen Valley Hospital's Nuclear Medicine Department to bring a cardiologist to the community.

Nancy Davis Neurodiagnostic Center established.
Dr. Rodney Kirk Memorial Scholarship established for health care professionals.

Wilton Jaffee, Sr. Memorial Scholarship established for Aspen Valley Hospital Employee Education.
Financed CEO residence on hospital campus. Hospital has since bought from Foundation.

Prescription Assistance Fund established for low-income patients. The Schuss family initiated the fund and Whip Jones and other donors supported the fund.
Charles Dowling Nolan, Sr. Memorial Cardiac Rehabilitation Center opens at Aspen Valley Hospital with funds raised by AVMF from the Nolan family.

Received largest gift in AVMF history of $7.5 million from Doris Denker Estate.

| 1998 |
After receiving the large Denker bequest, AVMF commissioned Bentz Whaley Flessner to conduct a Development Program Audit. The recommendations focused on strengthening the board and clarifying its roles and responsibilities; improving relations with Aspen Valley Hospital; improving visibility of AVMF in the community; and adding at least one additional full-time and one part-time staff person in order to raise more funds and grant them to the hospital and community health and human services more effectively.
Celebrated Foundation's 25th anniversary. Honored Foundation founders at the Aspen Health and Fitness Symposium, a weekend-long event sponsored and funded jointly by the Given and the Foundation with a gift from Dr. Al and Trish Nichols.
Level III Trauma Center at Aspen Valley Hospital is renovated thanks to a generous gift from HRH Prince Bandar.
A record $794,881 granted to the Aspen Valley Hospital and other local health-related organizations and programs.

Received $1 million from the Benedict Estate.
$200,000 raised for improvements to helipad at Aspen Valley Hospital (still held in a restricted fund).
Formed alliance with Neighbor to Neighbor. Their board became a committee of Foundation. Two Neighbor to Neighbor board members, John Sarpa and Sue Smedstad, become board members of Foundation.
The Dolly Lippman Memorial Hospice Room dedicated at the hospital July 1999.
Prescription Assistance Fund expanded and enlarged to assist patients throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, as well as include emergency dental assistance. Over $14,000 made available to benefit 119 individuals in need.

Granted to AVH $600,000 for digital radiography and $300,000 for general operating support.
Participated in Planning Process with AVH to determine long-term needs for AVH physical plant - $30 Million project identified as the need.
Established Medical Assistance Fund to provide assistance for individuals who have difficulty paying for necessary or emergent out-patient medical services, tests, equipment, therapy apparatus, procedures and/or treatment.
The Neighbor To Neighbor alliance approved indefinitely by AVMF Board of Directors.
$1 Million raised by AVMF from 8 donors for new AVH Conference Center to be named for Dr. Robert Oden, AVMF founder and retired orthopedic surgeon.

Granted $500,000 to AVH and began $1.5 Million fundraising for new CT Scan and Nuclear Medicine Camera.
$464,000 granted to Health and Human Service agencies.
$300,000 grant received from The Colorado Trust to begin valley-wide system of Palliative Care called Caring Connections.
AVMF conducts Community Health and Human Service Needs Assessment that identified mental health and substance abuse issues as most critical needs.

AVMF grants $351,900 to AVH and $472,447 to Health and Human Service agencies.
Granted $18,831 in direct assistance to individuals with dental, prescription and medical needs, and $93,753 in scholarships for health care professionals.
Created VIA Valley Information and Assistance connecting people in need to community resources when they call 544-5545.
Helped establish new Breast Health Program at AVH with new Patient Liaison and additional advanced diagnostic equipment.

$250,000 bequeathed to AVMF from Estate of Rose Stanton.
Participated in AVH Strategic Planning Process.
Granted $504,000 to AVH and $557,000 to Health and Human Service agencies.
AVH requested assistance from AVMF to raise $4M of a $10M remodel project. AVMF conducted a Feasibility Study with a national professional fundraising consulting firm and determined that although large sums of funds could be raised, donors do not give to retire debt. Therefore, AVMF proposed to raise $30M for a comprehensive remodel of AVH for future expansion. No campaign has yet begun.
Celebrated 30th Anniversary of AVMF with formal dinner and auction at St. Regis Hotel.
Established special funds for AVH Cancer Guides and The Right Door for substance abuse intervention.

Strategic Directions for Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, September 2004 was adopted by AVMF board and staff.
Dr. Richard Kogan’s Music & the Mind concert featuring the life and work of Robert Schumann was presented at Harris Hall. Co-sponsored by AVMF and the Aspen Music School and Festival.
